BARKER, LEPINE CHASING THIRD AND SECOND TITLE

As we head into the final weekend of the 2025 National Championship chase, familiar names once again sit on top of the Super Pro points standings. Brandon Barker from Smiths Falls, Ontario, is coming off a double win at the last race, extending his lead at the top of the leaderboard with a massive 1,200-point advantage (four round wins) over his closest rival, Larry Lepine Jr.

With the 10 best scores out of 11 races counting toward the final championship standings, Barker still has a low 300-point score to improve on in the last two races of the season at the end of the month. On his way to a third and back-to-back Super Tour Championship, Barker also has his second entry near the top, currently 2nd in the dragster side and 3rd overall. Looking back, Barker achieved something similar in 2018 when he captured his first title while also finishing 3rd overall with his second entry.

Currently sitting 1st on the door car side, Larry Lepine Jr. from Ottawa has made an impressive transition from competing on his motorcycle in the Footbrake class to a delay-box equipped door car. Lepine captured his first Super Tour Championship last year by winning the Footbrake category and is now in position to collect a second title in a completely different class. His lead is slim with less than a round over the team of Danny and Alex Lanctôt from St-Eustache. Both the Lanctôt team and Lepine have a 300-point score to improve at the Bracket Finals.

In 5th and 6th place are both former Champs Mike Chenier from Gatineau and Dave Rennie from Ottawa, each with 6,500 points. Chenier takes the edge thanks to a tie-breaker point from earlier season performances. Both drivers are seven rounds short of the lead.

From 7th place onward, we find six drivers mathematically still in contention, all nine rounds behind: former champions Phil Harvey and Brock Godmaire, also Frank Angers with his two entries, Landyn Urslak and Pam Rennie. Harvey and Godmaire have a slight edge, as both still hold a zero to replace in their scoring column.

DARRYL AND GAB JENSEN STEP UP!

In the Footbrake category, the championship race is extremely tight. Team Jensen & Sons from Kemptville, Ontario, surged into the lead with a strong performance at the most recent Tour race. They hold only a one-round advantage over newcomer Patrick Proulx from Lacolle and veteran Pat Alarie from Luskville.

Previous leader Martin Patry from Quebec City dropped from first to fourth, but remains only two round wins shy of retaking the top spot. Meanwhile, could this finally be the year for Stephen Ballantyne to sign his name as National Champion? Long considered one of the fiercest competitors in the Footbrake ranks, Ballantyne has yet to capture a title. He currently sits in 5th, just two round wins away from the top.

Looking deeper, as far back as 13th place, every racer still has a realistic chance to clinch the championship in the final weekend, which promises a thrilling showdown in three weeks at Napierville Dragway.

JUNIOR CLASS

In the Junior category, last year’s Champion Parker Seguin from North Bay holds a four-round lead over Mavrick Angers from Laval. Parker’s sister, Shelbie, sits in 3rd, while cousins Julia Malcolm and Cole Krittner round out the top 5.

Every National Championship will be decided on September 27 and 28 at Napierville Dragway during the PARA Performance Canadian Bracket Finals, presented by Frank Mastro L’électricien and S.M. Transport.
