BRANDON BARKER AND JULIA MALCOLM DOMINATE THE FALL BRACKET

From August 29 to 31, the traditional Fall Bracket Championship was held at Luskville Dragway. The 36th annual edition was presented by Speedy Auto Gatineau in collaboration with KD Transmissions and Honeywell Works.

As we approached the final stretch of the season and fall weather began to set in, conditions once again became a factor. Friday’s Gambler’s races were canceled due to weather, but by Saturday morning the sun was shining and all main event races were contested as scheduled.

BARKER DOUBLES IN SUPER PRO

Reigning Super Pro Dragster and two-time champion Brandon Barker of Smiths Falls, Ontario, scored the double-up in Super Pro. On Saturday, Barker claimed the win over Mike Chenier of Gatineau, this year’s 2024 Super Pro Overall Champion, in the final round after eliminating Frank Angers of Laval in the semifinals. The other semifinalist was Super Pro newcomer Larry Lépine Jr. of Gatineau, competing with his recently acquired door car.

On Sunday, Barker went straight back to the winner’s circle, this time defeating the “Red Hot” Frank Angers in the final round. Serge Marineau of St-Eustache fell to Barker in the semifinals, while Alex Lanctôt, also from St-Eustache, claimed the other semifinal spot.

With three wins already this season, Brandon Barker now sits at the top of the all-time Super Tour event winners list with nine victories to his credit.

FOOTBRAKE ACTION

In the Footbrake category, Mike Labelle of North Bay took home Saturday’s win over Patrick Proulx. Semifinalists included Gab Jensen and Blain Weaver. On Sunday, Dominic Germain of Terrebonne earned his second Super Tour victory by defeating Luskville’s own Patrick Alarie. Gab Jensen returned to the semifinals, while Frank Mastro of Montreal rounded out the final four.

JUNIORS BELONG TO MALCOLM

In the Junior category, another double-up performance was recorded as third-generation racer Julia Malcolm of Ottawa swept both days. On Saturday, Malcolm bested her good friend Katie Adams, and on Sunday she defeated Hayley Angers of Laval to secure back-to-back wins.

The Super Tour points standings are expected to be published tomorrow as we head into the final race weekend of the season at Napierville Dragway, September 27–28.
